First time rented, a historic farmhouse in the Catskills Park.
Surrounded by hundreds of acres of wild forest, at the end of a one-lane road, the house is completely private. Once it was owned by the village postmaster, we've updated it while retaining its character with antique floors of chestnut, pine, and oak; original windows and much of the old curly glass, the house is spacious and comfortable. With three bedrooms, and two bathrooms, it sleeps six comfortably. There is also a dedicated TV room and an office upstairs. Solar, with its own well and septic, plus a whole-house generator in case of outages, wi-fi, cable TV, etc.
Full of art works and books, the house is less than ten minutes from Woodstock, fifteen from Phoenicia, in an area that is rapidly becoming a favorite summer retreat from New York. In the Catskills Park, we're within easy reach of some of the country's best hiking trails, with rock climbing at Shawangunk Ridge an easy drive away. There are fine restaurants nearby and the city is a two hour drive down the Thruway, though there is a convenient bus that runs from the nearby town of Kingston, Amtrak is a half hour away on the other side of the river. Or you can just hang out and relax on the porch. I stopped mowing much of my grass a few years ago to provide a refuge for wild life, though I keep some areas open near the house for the fire pit and barbecue.
At this time, I can only rent in 15 day blocs to accord with the town's regulations. Talk to me about discounts if you want to stay longer, my dates can also be flexible for the right person. Given how private the house is, a car is essential.
