Fantasy Fest -
For those who are not familiar with Fantasy Fest, Fantasy Fest is an annual 10-day party in paradise for grown-ups. Started in 1979 by a small group of Key West locals, the party was created to bring visitors to the island in what was a typically quiet, but beautiful season. It worked. Fantasy Fest has grown every year since its inception and is now the wildest extravaganza around! Fun-loving revelers from around the globe bring their creativity and imaginations as they descend upon Key West each year in October for 10 days filled with costuming, parades, libations, and excitement! Checkout the photos.
The prime 7-days of Fantasy Fest are the Sunday to Sunday that I have listed. Fantasy Fest builds up as the 10 days go on to its climax on the final Saturday night.
Be forewarned: Fantasy Fest is a party for adults. It is not "PG" rated.
Hyatt Sunset Harbor -
Hyatt’s Sunset Harbor is not just another Key West property; it is nestled deep in the heart of Old Town, the heart and soul of one of America’s most treasured vacation destinations. Nearby, you can enjoy the charms of Duval Street shopping or nightlife, the nightly sunset celebration at Mallory Square, entertainment and refreshments at the Sunset Pier, and the many happy hours at Key West’s Historic Seaport and throughout Key West.
Perfectly situated on the western side of the island, this gracious retreat directly overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, offering magnificent water views and Key West sunsets from the courtyard, pool, and hot tub! Hyatt Sunset Harbor's residences become the perfect home-away-from-home during your stay in Key West!
Hyatt Sunset Harbor’s 40 residential-style retreats offer well-appointed comforts of home and signature Hyatt® care. Hyatt typically offers complimentary, freshly brewed Starbucks coffee and an assortment of teas from 7:00 to 9:00 AM each morning in the lobby.
This classic studio style residence is like a hotel room. It features a master suite with a deluxe king-size bed and connecting full bath with a separate shower and tub; a casual living and casual dining area (with a TV); and a kitchenette (with a mini microwave and a mini refrigerator). Amenities include a coffeemaker, ceiling fan, wireless internet, and onsite laundry facilities. This classic studio unit sleeps up to 2 adult guests.
Unlike the larger one-bedroom and two-bedroom condo style residences at Hyatt Sunset Harbor, this studio residence does not have a fully equipped kitchen; dining room; living room; waterfront balcony; or water view.
But you will be in the heart of Old Town Key West; you will enjoy the hospitality that Hyatt is known for; and you will have access to all of Hyatt Sunset Harbor's outdoor amenities, including the courtyard, outdoor heated swimming pool, whirlpool hot tub, etc. All at a fair price.
Hyatt Sunset Harbor's courtyard, swimming pool, and hot tub are waterfront!
The photos in this listing are stock photos and do not show the actual room that Hyatt will assign to you. Hyatt will assign your room to you at check-in depending on availability.
Of course, if you're looking for more natural pursuits, you have plenty of options - Key West is a haven for fishers, and the unique ecosystem is well-suited to those seeking to explore by foot or bike. Plenty of unique attractions await those looking for a change of pace - check out the Harry S. Truman Little White House, Key West Aquarium, Key West Lighthouse Museum and Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum; all within walking distance of the Hyatt Sunset Harbor.
Hyatt Sunset Harbor Interior Design “Makeover” -
The Hyatt Sunset Harbor Board of Directors announced in their July 2023 Newsletter that within the next several months, they are planning an interior design “makeover.” In the works are new flooring, new living room furniture, new drapery and rugs, etc. When done, all villas will have a new design reflecting the colors of Key West.
This work will be completed throughout the remainder of 2023 and into 2024. Contractors will be on site during working hours during this time. There will be construction activities and construction noise.
Hyatt Sunset Harbor Exterior Building Maintenance -
Following the collapse of the 12-story beachfront condominium in Surfside, FL in June 2021, the state of Florida basically legislated that the owners of all buildings in Florida that are 3 stories or more in height are required to have an engineering company conduct a structural inspection and prepare an inspection report with recommendations. The inspection report for the Hyatt Sunset Harbor was completed in June 2023.
In line with the recommendations of the inspection report, the Hyatt Sunset Harbor’s Board of Directors announced in July 2023 that exterior building maintenance will take place at the Hyatt Sunset Harbor throughout the remainder of 2023 and into 2024. The roof may be refurbished or replaced in 2024.
Exterior building maintenance had already commenced prior to issuance of the inspection report. For now, they are shoring up exterior balcony beams and pillars on building 5; replacing and refurbishing balcony railings on building 5; upgrading components on both elevators; along with other building upgrades. They will then commence with repair and restoration of the roof.
Contractors will be on site during working hours during this time. There will be construction activities and construction noise.
I spoke to the Hyatt Sunset Harbor front desk manager on July 30. She told me that the worst of the work for 2023, i.e the beams, pillars, and railings on Building 5, is almost complete and that there has been no impact on reservations to date, other than the visible construction activities and noise. I have had guests stay at the Hyatt Sunset Harbor during these construction activities and thus far have had no negative comments.
