The Space:
This prized townhouse, formerly a synagogue, was brilliantly transformed in 2005 by world-famous designers from Ian Schrager Hotels. Located in the Historic East Village, this 3/4 bedroom, 2.5 bath fourplex has been featured in Architectural Record and other press. The architecturally distinctive landmark boasts three outdoor spaces, including a landscaped rooftop deck, an outdoor hot tub, a steam room, and wine storage.
The interior is bathed in natural light and adorned with high-end touches such as Brazilian hardwood cherry floors and radiant floor heating. Custom-made windows replicate those from the building’s synagogue days, complete with the Star of David. The living and entertaining space features 22' cathedral ceilings, a cantilever balcony with a built-in projector, and a chef’s kitchen with a 20' island, Thermador double ovens, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Bosch dishwasher, and a wine cooler. Off the elegant dining area, with the original restored 19th-century backlit Star of David, sits a rear dining terrace beyond a wall of glass and steel windows and doors.
The second level offers a relaxing retreat with a gorgeous library featuring an Italian marble fireplace and a wet bar, along with two comfortable guest bedrooms with custom wall-size closets. Sliding doors can open to create one large guest suite. The third story encompasses a secluded master bedroom with a custom fireplace and an opulent en-suite bath with an oversized Jacuzzi tub and a walk-in shower with a steam unit and rain shower. The fourth floor houses a penthouse office space with a south-facing terrace.
