Summary: I was disappointed when we arrived late at the apartment and, from the first floor entry, went downstairs into a somewhat dingy hallway to get to the door. Entering the flat, it was hot, so we sought out the air conditioning . I did not know that it is common in private homes and businesses these days to have a large portable air conditioner. That’s what this place has. Soon we realized that to air condition the apartment, we would have to leave a tall window open in order to snake the exhaust tube outside. That window gives access to the courtyard outside. It felt insecure, but we patched the window around the exhaust tube. Going to bed, we pulled out the sofa bed, which was made, and found the lower sheet was dirty. So we slept on top of the top sheet that night and requested a new sheet the next day. We didn’t get it until the day after that. We also had a little scare when my daughter yelled from the bathroom. It turned out the doorknob did not work from the inside. So it was a bad start. We slept that first night, though, and gradually became used to the place. It has a laundry machine, which is great, and the necessary equipment in the kitchen. The bathroom is nicely redone, except that the temperature control on the faucet always returned to the hottest setting. We had to hold onto it to keep from being hit with extremely hot water. The courtyard, it turns out, is quiet and largely inaccessible to other people. So the security concerns that we initially had felt unrealistic by the end. The quarters are cramped, but this is Paris — of course they are. The AC setup worked OK, though it will not cool the flat a lot on hot days and nights. The beds were comfortable enough. The furniture was fine. The WiFi worked. In the end, we liked the place, even though it needed greater care.
