Mid-Century Charmer on the Hill | House in Saugatuck
2 Bedroom House in Saugatuck
We live in Chicago and visit as often as we can to get a dose of Lake Michigan fun or for a chill respite. Just 2 blocks from the water and a 5 minute walk to town, our house is on the Hill, just far enough to be away from the fray. Some time this summer, we hope to have the cottage in the back ready with even more room to spread out. We love to host folks and want you to enjoy our space as much as we do.
We fell in love with this place the moment we saw it.
The house sits on a hill, so you can see trees and sky in every direction. The backyard is open and has lots of fun spaces, including a big porch with a dining area and a firepit. There's also a gas grill ready to go.
As for the house, the front door opens into the lounge. With nice high ceilings and fun furnishings, this is a great room to take in the light (you can see the infamous Mt. Baldhead from the windows) or sit back and listen to some old records on our retro Curtis Mathes stereo. There's also a super-fun set of 1969 Optimus-4 walnut speakers that double as seats!
The lounge leads to the kitchen and eating space (just beyond our tiny but very functional laundry room). The kitchen is fully equipped with a big fridge, great stove and oven, large microwave, and dishwasher. The double-wide sink is in front of one of our favorite windows in the house overlooking the back yard. We both cook, so the kitchen is equipped with nice pans and cooking utensils, things for baking, and a snappy orange Kitchenaid mixer. There's also loads of work space. And because we kick back like the best of 'em, there's lots of different cocktails glasses and tools for making your own.
The living room and library balance out the other half of the first floor. We have a large-screen television with access to basic cable in addition to hulu, Netflix, and Amazon video (use my accounts or log in to your own). Our new Joybird sofa opens out into a comfy queen bed (we tested it to make sure!). The wood-burning fireplace is the centerpiece of the room and wonderful when playing outside isn't an option.
The library (or game room, because of the games and the stuffed guys ;) is just beyond the living room and is a super comfy place to put your feet up. We're constantly adding to our collection of books, movies, games, and other fun things! There's also a portable waterproof bluetooth speaker that you can put wherever you want to rock out (just be mindful of our fabulous neighbors).
Off the library (and the kitchen) is our bright screened-in back porch. There's a big ol' picnic table and a ceiling fan to keep you cool.
The stairs to the second floor are steep, but there are two handrails to help you out. The master bedroom is at the front of the house and two windows look out to lovely trees, creating a beautiful scene to wake up to. There is a king bed, vintage furniture, and a large walk-in closet, so plenty of room to spread out and stash your stuff!
The full bathroom is on the second floor (there's a half bath on the first), with super high ceilings and windows, and is a bright way to start your day (or a wonderful place to take a moonlit shower). We've got you covered with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, great hair dryer, and some back-up supplies in case you've forgotten anything.
The second bedroom overlooks the back yard and gets incredible light. The beds can be configured as two XL twins or as a king, and the headboard has flexible shelving so that no matter how its set up, everyone has room to stash their stuff. There's a small dresser and a closet in this room as well.
New in November 2021—we now have a hot tub! Bring your suits (and maybe some flip flops or waterproof boots if you're there in the winter) and enjoy ending a busy day with some pretty lights and hot bubbly water!
The Betty, the little cottage in the back, is seasonally available to add on for $125 (total, not nightly) + a $40 cleaning fee, if you need a little extra room to spread out (not available in winter). There's a living room with some fun, vintage furniture, including a sleeper couch that's great for naps. The writer's room in back, has a lovely old desk and a twin bed. One of our guest's 10-year-old slept there and was very excited to have "his own house!" The cocktail and garden room, just off the firepit, is great for mixing it up (see what we did there?!). We don't rent this space separately, and we'll just ask you after you book if you'd like to add it on.
Let us know if you have any questions. We'd love to have you.
