Summary: I wish I could give this hotel 5 stars as there are many great features: location, staff, quality of the breakfast, provision of a lighted magnifying mirror in the bathroom, and on the list goes. But there was one issue that we would have to know had been addressed before we’d ever consider staying there again: the very heavy use of highly fragranced air freshener in the elevator and hall area on the floor we were on (5th floor). This may sound like a small thing, but having a significant allergy to fragrances meant it had a big, very negative impact on our stay. Waiting for the elevator was awful as was the walk to and from our room. We raised the issue with staff and they had it turned off (they use some kind of dispenser right at the elevators). Not surprizingly, it took most of a day for the strong smell to clear off a bit however, the next morning it was on again. Not only was this very uncomfortable for us, it made us wonder what smell(s) the hotel was trying to mask. We raised this at checkout as feedback and received a sympathetic response and an indication that the issue would be raised with management. We hope they remove this completely as there are many who are bothered by fragrances. We’d stay here again on our next visit to Manchester but only if we could be assured this issue had been addressed.
